For Spring 2016, Smashbox has released some really fresh and fun lip products and today I am swatching up two new Be Legendary Lipsticks ($23 CAD) and an interesting lipstick mattifier called the Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer ($26 CAD). To see some swatches and my review, click.......
Smashbox Be Legendary Cream Lipstick in "Get Fire" ($23 CAD):
Housed in a simple and sleek matte black rectangular tube, the Be Legendary Cream Lipstick in "Get Fired" is a bright red with a slight orange undertone. The formulation is very lightweight, slick, and hydrating but I had a little bit of trouble during application. With this particular shade, it was tricky to get really clean lines as the pigmentation is bold but slightly patchy so a thick application is needed for an even and opaque finish.

Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick in "Jam On It" ($23 CAD):
A matte version of the original Be Legendary lipsticks, "Jam On It" is a beautiful plummy wine red. The color isn't completely matte, taking on a more satiny finish. However, the formulation is very creamy and smooth, not at all clingy or drying. Although pigmented, the lipstick doesn't build very well as the texture is quite thin and non-clingy. Overall though, this is a nice and comfortable matte lip color with good longevity!

Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer ($26 CAD):
A unique silicon-based gel housed in a small squeeze tube, this Lipstick Transformer can be used over any cream lipstick for a satiny matte finish. The product is not designed for lip glosses, liquid lipsticks, or basically any lip color that doesn't cling too well to the lips.

Like a mattifying face primer, Insta-Matte can be spread onto cream lipsticks and instantly give a satin-finish. The product definitely works at it claims but I think it's best paired with a heavier cream lipstick that really clings to the lipsticks. I used it with "Get Fired", which has a really slick and slippery formulation. So when I spread the Insta-Matte over the lipstick, the pigments shifted around and became diluted by the mattifier. Additionally, the mattifier doesn't quite set so it's not transfer- or smudge-proof, although it's not drying or uncomfortable to wear. Overall, it's a pretty cool product; in my opinion, this is not an everyday lip item but it's great for a fun or emergency lip change-up.
