Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon: Review and Swatches

New from Marc Jacobs is an ultra-thin version of the brand's popular Highliner Gel Eye Crayons. With a two-millimeter, unbreakable tip, the Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon ($30 CAD)CAD) promises a precise application and an all-day wear. Packaging:
The Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra Skinny Gel Eye Crayon comes in a very thin and sleek twist-up eye pencil. The packaging has a very modern and reflective design but I did wish the leads came pre-sharpened instead of flattened. The other downside of the packaging is that the pencils are not retractable; once the leads are twisted up, they cannot be twisted back down, so you have to be careful exactly how much to dispense.

Formulation:
Upon swatching on the back of my hand, I was very impressed with the formulation of these eyeliners. The application was slick and smooth and the pigmentation was intense and smudge-proof. However, when I tried it on my eyes, the liner tugged and pulled and the application was quite challenging. Unlike the back of my hands, my lids are definitely softer and more wrinkly, and because of that, the formulation just wasn't soft enough to glide effortlessly. Additionally, the liner sets very quickly and once it sets, it does not layer well. When I tried to go over the same line with a second stroke, the formulation tugged even more!
Unfortunately, the wear was also unimpressive. The line I drew on my waterline disappeared and smudged within minutes and the line on my lids smudged within two hours. The formulation is not water or tear proof but it also doesn't remove easily unless you use a good cleansing oil.

Blacquer: This is a carbon black, the pigmentation is great but the wear is not.
(Big)Eyes!: A fairly opaque white, this shade is not as opaque as Blacquer.

Overall, I had really high hopes for these liners but in terms of both application and wear, these just didn't work for me.
