My Trip to NYC | Birchbox BYOB Build Your Own Birchbox

Disclaimer: The Birchboxes featured were complimentary, courtesy of Birchbox SoHo.
While I was in New York City, I knew I had to check out the Birchbox Store in SoHo. Located on West Broadway Street, Birchbox Soho occupies a spacious two-level store. The shop offers a huge variety of beauty, skincare, and hair products featured in the Birchbox mailing subscription but I was mainly there to check out their BYOB (Build Your Own Birchbox) feature. Located on the ground floor of Birchbox Soho, the Build Your Own Birchbox service consists of a huge station full of samples to choose from and empty Birchboxes to fill. Basically, you have two options: either spend $15 to pick one sample from each of the five product categories (hair, body, makeup, fragrance, and skincare) or spend $25 and choose five samples from any category.

If you love subscription services like Birchbox, then the Build Your Own Birchbox experience is literally a dream come true because you get to choose exactly what you get in your box. In terms of selection, there is a ton of samples to choose from! It was literally a sea of samples!
For the makeup samples, there are testers that you can swatch and try out so you know exactly what colors you are are getting. The teeny-tiny blushers from TheBalm totally got me oohing and ahhing.

My friend and I both built a box. I chose a Cargo Swimmables Shadow Stick, a Pop Beauty Matte Velvet Lipstick, a Burt's Bees Lipstick, and the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in "Beso" and "Bella". I believe everything was full-sized except for the Stila liquid lipsticks. Can you tell that I love lip products?
My friend went with a more skincare-oriented selection with the La Mav Green Clay Detox Mask, the Dr. Jart+ BB Beauty Balm, The MD Solar Sciences Mineral Moisture Defense Sunscreen, a Macadamia Professional Dry Shampoo, and a small sample of the Bijou Vert fragrance from Raw Spirit.

If you are planning on building your own Birchbox, I definitely recommend going with the $25 option. It's $10 more expensive than the cheaper option but you really get a better value as a lot of the body and hair samples are small one-use samples. So it's better to take full advantage of this service and pick out exactly what you what!

Aside from the Build Your Own Birchbox area, the store offers a wide array of products. They carry everything from well-known brands like Stila and Sigma to more niche brands like Too Cool for School and rms Beauty. In their lower level, they have a large men's section and even a Build Your Own Birchbox station with mostly products for men. Birchbox SoHo also offers beauty service appointments where you can get full makeup applications or hair stylings.

Overall I really enjoyed my visit to the Birchbox SoHo. The store had a beautiful open layout and the interior decors are super modern and inviting. Even if you aren't trying the BYOB experience, there is still a ton of products to browse through. I got totally enamored with the Michael Todd skincare line and ended up picking up the Organic Lemon toner!
