Lush Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water: Review
Toners are one of those things I never really appreciated in my younger days. However, having had the opportunity to test out so many good ones over the years, I've finally recognized their merits and made them an essential part of my daily skincare routine. Not only do they provide extra hydration or even some gentle exfoliation, toners help maintain the skin's natural pH after cleansing. So today, I want to share a quick review of a toner spray from Lush called the Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water ($10.95 CAD for 100ml or 22.95 for 200ml). Made with sea water, aloe vera, and rose absolute, the Breath of Fresh Air promises to cool, hydrate, and calm the skin. To read all about it, click......

Available in two sizes, the Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water comes in a convenient spray bottle. The spray mechanism isn't particularly fine or misty but it's very powerful so only a couple spritz will cover the entire face. Designed to soothe and clarify the skin, the formulation consists of spring water, sea water, aloe vera, carrageenan extract (from seaweed), rose absolute, seaweed absolute, and oils of patchouli and rosemary. Natural fragrances are also added so the product has a refreshing scent.

To use, directly spray over clean skin or use a cotton pad to apply. This is the first time I've tried a toner from Lush and unfortunately, I'm a bit disappointed. The product feels very refreshing and cooling at first but after it is absorbed, my skin is left feeling a bit tight and dry. Of course, toners aren't designed to be used alone without a moisturizer but I don't like the idea of my skin being stripped of its moisture at any point in my skincare routine. In my opinion, the salt level in the formulation is a tad high. Instead of soothing and hydrating, the toner draws out water from the skin and leaves my face feeling taut and uncomfortable.
All in all, I personally wouldn't recommend this product. The sea water formulation felt drying even on my combination/oily skin. Therefore, I can't see how this would perform any better for those with normal, dry, or sensitive skin.

Update: I tried applying this toner with a cotton pad. Interestingly, something about this method of application left my skin feeling less tight and dry. I don't really know what explanation lies behind this discrepancy but if you are willing to unscrew the spray cap and use a cotton pad for application, Fresh Air is actually not too bad!
