Dr. Hauschka | Facial Toner & Rose Day Cream: Review
Founded in 1967 by Dr. Hauschka, an Austrian chemist and entrepreneur, the Dr. Hasuchka skincare and beauty brand celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Made with ingredients grown "biodynamically and organically", the brand uses high quality "plant oils and natural essential oils" free from "preservatives, artificial colors, and synthetic chemical fragrances". I had a chance last month to learn a little about the brand at a garden dinner in celebration of the momentous occasion and I also got to try a couple of the brand's bestselling skin care products so today I want to share with you my reviews of the Dr. Hauschka's Facial Toner and Rose Day Cream. Dr. Hauschka | Facial Toner ($45 CAD for 100 ml | Limited Edition 30 ml for $13 USD):
Designed to hydrate and renew, Dr. Hauschka's Facial Toner is formulated with Anthyllis extract and witch hazel. Known for its "balancing effect of oily, dry, and even irritated skin", the Anthyllis extract optimizes skin hydration while the witch hazel boosts elasticity and minimizes the look of pores. The toner is housed in a simple glass bottle equipped with a spray nozzle. Infused with a very light floral scent, the formulation has a thin liquid consistency and it dispenses as an extremely fine mist. The toner feels immediately refreshing on the skin and despite containing both alcohol and witch hazel, two ingredients that can be sensitizing to some, it left my skin feeling supple and moisturized.

Dr. Hauschka | Facial Toner (Limited Edition 30 ml)
As I've mentioned in previous reviews, I am not a fan of alcohol being used as a skincare ingredient. Although it serves as an emulsifying preservative that helps certain ingredients better penetrate the skin, alcohol can be drying and irritating. Dr. Hauschka's alcohol is a gluten-free, food-grade ethyl alcohol (ethanol) fermented and distilled from organically-grown wheat and as the brand claims, it is not drying as it is a part of "a carefully formulated Dr. Hauschka composition". Although the toner feels very gentle and non-drying, I do feel like I can do without the alcohol. Nevertheless, this is still a fantastic toner great for everyday use if you want something mild and soothing and don't mind the alcohol in the ingredients.

Dr. Hauschka | Rose Day Cream ($50 CAD for 30 ml of Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 50 ml):
In celebration of the brand's 50th anniversary, Dr. Hauschka is offering a limited edition 50ml version of its bestselling Rose Day Cream for the same price as the 30ml version. Described as a daily moisturizer designed to "protect against dryness to support an even, balanced complexion", the Rose Day Cream has a thick consistency similar to that of a heavy hand cream (ex. L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream). The formulation is water-based and also contains sesame oil, marsh mallow extract, rose water, Anthyllis vulneraria extract, apricot oil, almond oil, avocado oil, shea butter, and beeswax. Because of its thick texture, the product is a bit challenging to spread evenly but little goes a long way. Nevertheless, I personally find it too heavy for daytime use so this to me is more of a night cream. I'm very happy to see that no silicones are used in the ingredients but like the toner, the Rose Day Cream also contains alcohol (third ingredient). The formulation is super emollient and nourishing but I don't see how it can't achieve the same benefits without the alcohol. With that said, this is still a lovely, rich, and moisturizing face cream suitable for normal and dry skin. If you aren't opposed to alcohol in skincare then the Rose Day Cream is definitely worth checking out!
