Earth Day Beauty featuring Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Eyeliner in "Motivation" & "Feeling Secure": Review and Swatches

Disclaimer: The products featured were provided for review.
Happy Earth Day everyone! For the part two of my Earth Day Beauty post (see part one here), I have two liquid eyeliners from Lush's Emotional Brilliance makeup line. The Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Eyeliners ($18.95), just like the liquid lipsticks, are 100% vegan. All the shades from the collection have an empowering word or phrase for a name and I have here "Motivation" and "Feeling Secure".

What they are:
-Richly pigmented liquid eyeliners made with 100% vegan ingredients
-Smooth and long lasting formulation also allows the versatility of creating either a crisp or blended line

Key Ingredients:
-Rose petal infusion
-Glycerine
-Jojoba oil
-Almond oil

Packaging:
The Lush Emotional Brilliance liquid eyeliners are packaged in small glass bottles inspired by Lush Spas. The cap is shaped kind of like a medicine dropper but it actually has a very thin liner brush attached to it on the inside.
I had a difficult time working with the brush because as you will read, the formulation of the liner is rather viscous so it's a bit hard to work with such a thin brush.
Although the thin brush allows precision in application, it was not the right applicator for the liners.
Pigmentation & Formulation:
Motivation: This one is a beautiful metallic blue/green liner. The formulation of these liners are not quite liquid as the name suggests but it has a rather viscous gel-like type of consistency.
I had a very hard time making nice and even lines with the tiny brush tip the bottle came with because it was just too thin and the lines it created were too streaky. So I actually ended up removing the black rubber stoppers inside the bottles so I can dip my normal eyeliner brushes into the product.
With that adjustment to the application process Motivation was ten times easier to work with. The liner is very smooth and pigmented and with just a few strokes I could easily create a nice and opaque winged liner. After the liner sets, it has a nice transfer-free matte finish.

Feeling Secure: This is a bright cool tone purple. Compared to Motivation, Feeling Secure had a sheerer formulation, most likely due to the lack of metallic particles. It went on quite streaky so I had to go over it several times to make it opaque but once it sets, it looks just as nice as Motivation.

Longevity:
Both these liners are smudge-proof but they aren't water proof so they do remove easily with just simple soap and warm water.
Feeling Secure (left); Motivation (right).
Here are the products worn on the eyes:

Pros:
-Very unique and buildable colors
-Smudge proof formula
-Motivation had a very creamy and pigmented formulation
-All natural, 100% vegan ingredients
-Recyclable packaging

Cons:
-Applicator was not the right one for the formula
-Feeling Secure was streaky and needed several layers for the color to build
-Not waterproof (but easy to remove)
-Also I noticed that the liners do stain the skin a bit after a prolonged period of time

Overall:
With the flawed packaging design and the inconsistent formulation between the shades, the Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Eyeliners are not the best liners I have tried but I definitely like the color offerings the collection brings. How many brands offer bright purple and metallic turquoise liquid liners? After I removed the rubber stoppers from the bottles I had a much better experience with application and I definitely see myself wearing these during the summer months.

Availability:
The Lush Emotional Brilliance Liquid Eyeliners are available in a whopping total of 11 shades (ranging from a classic black to a bright green to a baby pink); they are available online and in stores at Lush.

So are you a fan of bright eyeliners? Which of the two do you like better? Let me know in the comments below!
