For Summer 2019, the Aura Mugler fragrance by Mugler is reimagined in a "captivating and carnal interpretation" that's even more sensual than the original. Aptly named the Aura Mugler Eau de Parfume Sensuelle ($96 CAD for 50 ml), the scent features notes of gardenia, cinnamon leaves, white musk, and sandalwood. The Bottle:
Similar to the original Aura Mugler, Aura Mugler Sensuelle features a sculpted heart-shaped bottle adorned with an iridescent pearly veil that shifts between green and lavender. The bottle has no removable cap but instead a press-down button decorated with an "M"-shaped (for Mugler) silver crown. I personally prefer the original transparent jade green bottle as it looks a lot more eye-catching and jewel-like but this new take is also very pretty and collection-worthy.
The Scent:
Opening on the Mugler-exclusive note of tiger liana, Aura Mugler Sensuelle starts off as a clean and sweet white floral. As the tiger liana and gardenia mellow, the fragrance takes on a slightly spicy edge thanks to the cinnamon leaves. This quickly warms up to a harmonious combination of musk and sandalwood. The Sensuelle base also seems to have a very earthy, patchouli vibe but patchouli is not listed as an ingredient.
As the Aura Sensuelle bottle looks so ethereal and whimsical, I was expecting a lighter, fresher scent. Therefore, I was really taken by surprise that the scent is even sweeter and warmer than the original. Overall, this is a rich woody floral that falls right in line with what one would expect from Mugler. The sillage and wear are both strong so a little goes a long way. It's not quite my cup of tea but if you like a warm and sweet floral, then it's definitely worth a try.
