Mugler | Aura Eau de Parfum: Review
The first major launch from Mugler since 2010's Womanity, Aura ($85 CAD for 30ml) is touted as the new chapter in the Mugler fragrance universe. Featuring a blend of botanical freshness and feline sensuality, the fragrance aims to embody women's instinct and energy for life. Sounds ambitious? Intrigued? Well, read my review to learn more about this fragrance.....

The Bottle:
Available in three sizes and sculpted to form a multi-faceted heart, the Mugler Aura bottle is tinted green to reflect the botanical fragrance profile. A shiny silver "M" adorns the top of the heart like a crown and unlike most fragrances, Aura does not have a cap. The perfume liquid dispenses by pressing the silver button at the top of the bottle. The overall design is very unique and eye-catching but I find it a little juvenile. Mugler bottles usually manage to be both fun and luxurious but this one feels more like a silly movie prop, albeit a very nicely made one.

The Fragrance:
Boasting an "oriental botanical carnal" fragrance, Mugler Aura features an exclusive ingredient called tiger liana. Never before used in a perfume, it supposedly gives a smoky, caramelized smell. Therefore, Aura has an almost gourmand feel despite not featuring any gourmand notes. The fragrance opens with a tart, refreshing burst of rhubarb and is quickly enveloped in a sweet but non-sugary veil of tiger liana, orange blossom, and vanilla. After quite a few hours, the perfume mellows out and gives way to a warm blend of vanilla and woodsy notes. The fragrance wears very well, a couple of spritz on the wrist gives enough sillage and it lasts around six or seven hours with only gradual fading.

Top Notes: Rhubarb leaf.
Heart Notes: Tiger liana and orange blossom.
Base Notes: Bourbon vanilla and wolfwood.

Based on Mugler's description, I was expecting a more green, clean-cut fragrance but Aura is much sweeter and vanilla-y than I had thought. I also don't really see the oriental aspect as it's not very warm or spicy. Nevertheless, I like this quite a bit. It's definitely unique enough amongst the hundreds of fruity floral fragrances out there but it's not overwhelming or overly gourmand like Angel. Overall, if you like a cool floral with a vanilla undertone, then you will definitely enjoy this one!
