Cake Rush Brush Satin Sugar Dry Shampoo Powder Volumizing Brush in "Darkest": Review
I love dry shampoo! It is truly one of the best new hair products to have arrived on the market a couple years ago. I mean, who doesn't love the idea of a quick fixer-upper for greasy roots without having to hit the showers? So far, I've tried loose dry shampoo powder and spray on dry shampoo, so I was pretty intrigued when I learnt about the Satin Sugar Rush Brush Dry Shampoo Volumizing Brush ($22 CAD) from Cake Beauty. The travel-friendly dry shampoo is packaged in a handy brush applicator that aims to provide an easy application and volume for the roots. So how well did this dry shampoo brush work? Find out by clicking........

Packaging:
The Satin Sugar Rush Brush comes in a chubby tube. The powder is stored in the lower department and is prevented from spilling with a twist on/twist off mechanism. The powder is also refillable as the end-cap can be unscrewed. A brush applicator can be found at the top end of the brush, the body of the tube can be pushed up to help gather the brush bristles before placing on the cap.
There are several issues I experienced with the packaging. Firstly, the quality of the brush is subpar; there was quite a bit of shedding, which is really not something you'd want, especially if you are using the brush in the hair.
Secondly, the on/off mechanism is problematic. The body of the tube can be twisted right or left to either open or close the shampoo powder department. However, the mechanism doesn't work very well, allowing constant leakage, which makes things very messy.
Thirdly, the end-cap is unscrews very easily. In fact, the end-cap came loose in my makeup bag and the powder spilled all over my other products.

Formulation:
The great thing about the dry shampoo powder is that it comes in three different shades (light, dark, darkes) to accommodate different hair colors. I have here "darkest" and it's perfect for my black hair. The Satin Sugar dry shampoo is very finely milled and it has a lovely vanilla icing/baked goods scent. The powder is formulated with corn starch to absorb excess oil and the chamomile and calendula helps soothe and nourish the scalp and roots. The powder works pretty well, it instantly erases shine and delays further appearance of greasy roots.

Overall:
Despite having a great formulation and a delicious scent, the Cake Satin Sugar Rush Brush has too many packaging flaws: the brush sheds, the on/off mechanism is faulty, and the end cap unscrews very easily. I think until the product design improves, it's better to stick with the original Satin Sugar Hair Powder from Cake.
