Tarte Summer 2017 Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner: Review and Swatches
A long time best seller from Tarte, the Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liners ($25 CAD) are getting a few colorful additions for Summer 2017. Ranging from bright hot pinks to stunning iridescent shimmers, the limited edition shades offer the combined versatility of a gel liner and a cream eyeshadow. Packaging:
The Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner is housed in a 2.5g glass jar with a shiny gold lid. Judging from the size of the packaging, I was expecting that Tarte included a mini brush applicator with each liner but alas, I was wrong. I'm normally not a fan of mini brush applicators but extra eyeliner brushes always prove to be useful!

Formulation:
Promising a long-lasting gel formulation that doubles as a cream eyeshadow, the new Clay Pot Waterproof Shadow Liner shades are quite a mixed bag. The overall formulation has a thicker, tackier consistency compared to your average gel liner. However, the issue I had was that several of the shades are super sheer and patchy. Even blended out as shadows, they creased and slid around my lids, taking seemingly forever to set. With that said, these liners do set to a smudge-proof and waterproof finish. Read on below for a breakdown of the new shades.

Crystal Ball: This is a gorgeous oil-slick lavender shimmer with a subtle duo-chrome effect. The shade doesn't have much of a base color so its application is quite patchy. I would recommend using this on top of another color for added dimensions.
Bubblegum: A hot pink with a subtle shimmer, Bubblegum looks super intense and fun in the jar. However, the application is patchy and sheer. Even when I tried to blend it out to a sheer coverage, it creased like crazy and took forever to set.
Prom Queen: Similar to Bubblegum, this shade is a dud in that the color is sheer and the application is patchy.
Blue Moon: A surprisingly pigmented bright sky blue, Blue Moon is very creamy and smooth.
Margarita: This is a bright lime green with a pretty pigmented formulation. The pigmentation is much better compared to Bubblegum and Prom Queen, but it's not as intense as Blue Moon.
Lucky Penny: Hands down the best out of the six, Lucky Penny is a gorgeous bright copper metallic. The formulation is super rich and smooth and the coverage is divine!
