Tatcha The Essence & The Water Cream: Review
A while ago, Tatcha put out a couple of new products and I've finally had enough time to test them out and share with you my reviews today. The new The Essence is a plumping and softening everyday toner while The Water Cream is a lightweight and oil-free moisturizer recommended for normal to oily skin. Both products are formulated with the prized Tatcha Hadasei-3 Anti-Aging Complex, promising long-lasting hydration and nourishment. To read my reviews for both, click.....
Tatcha The Essence Review
Tatcha | The Essence
Tatcha The Essence ($114 CAD for 150ml):
Housed in a large and beautiful pearly white bottle with a unique soft rubber spout dispenser, The Essence from Tatcha is a liquid essence toner designed to plump, soften, smooth, and hydrate the skin. Formulated with the exclusive Tatcha Hadasei-3 Anti-Aging Complex, a fermented liquid complex of Uji green tea, Okinawa mozuku algae, and Akita rice, the product is also infused with soy amino acids and yeast extracts. The Essence does contain phenoxyethanol, a type of alcohol. However, it is the last ingredient on the list and used solely as a preservative.

In terms of texture, The Essence is a thin liquid not much different from your typical toner. There isn't much of a fragrance and it's not stingy or tingling on the skin. The product is intended to be applied after cleansing and before moisturizing. It spreads nicely on the skin and absorbs fairly quickly. I found the formulation to be very moisturizing but lightweight as it leaves behind no residues. The product does seem to really nourish and plump the skin but I don't know if it does anything more than my usual toners. Therefore, the $114 CAD price tag is a tad steep. With that said, the product is very gentle and Tatcha undoubtedly uses only the finest ingredients. So as long as your budget allows, this is a pretty good everyday toner/essence that's suitable for all skin types.

Tatcha The Water Cream ($82 CAD for 50ml):
This is an oil-free and lightweight gel moisturizer housed in an adorable light mint-colored plastic jar. The lid is adorned with a little shiny gold loop that holds a cream scooper that you can actually slide out to use when applying The Water Cream. Also formulated with the Tatcha Hadasei-3 Anti-Aging Complex (fermented Uji green tea, Okinawa mozuku algae, and Akita rice), the cream is also made with extracts of Japanese leopard lily and Japanese wild rose.

Tatcha | The Water Cream
The Water Cream has a very light and gel-like texture that almost feels like water when you first apply it. The finish is non-greasy but hydrating. Unfortunately, this is a dimethicone-heavy product. As I've mentioned many times before, dimethicone-based moisturizers (like this one) tend to wear poorly on my oily skin. Although the silicone sitting atop the skin initially provides a blurring and mattifying effect, it will end up feeling icky and chunky by the end of the day as the sebum produced by my skin disrupts and mixes with the silicone layer. Therefore, I personally would not recommend this for those with oily or combination skin. However, if you have normal skin and want a lightweight day moisturizing for the summertime, this is worth checking out.
