Just in time for the warmer weather, Tarte has released a mesmerizing new collection inspired by all things mermaid! Filled with gorgeous makeup and skincare items, the Mermaid Collection is in stores and online now. Packaging:
The Be A Mermaid & Make Waves Eyeshadow Palette from Tarte comes in a clam-shaped compact covered with a metallic green and blue fabric reminiscent of a mermaid's tail. The large mirror inside is embossed with the cute phrase "99% Mermaid" and each of the 14 shadows is pressed in a 0.8g scale-shaped pan. Although very reflective and befitting of the mermaid theme, the inside of the palette picks up fingerprints like crazy and because the formulation is fallout-prone, the whole thing looks super messy after just one use. It's not a deal breaker but when the packaging looks so pretty, I just wish it can stay that way.

Formulation:
Described as a "mermaid-inspired" palette, the Be A Mermaid & Make Waves Eyeshadow Palette offers a mostly neutral range of colors. Most of the shades are shimmery metallics and only three of them are mattes. Infused with Tarte's signature Amazonian clay and a dash of vanilla extract, the shadows are finely-milled and sweetly scented. All the shades are pigmented, buildable, and easy to blend but there are noticeable fallouts, especially with the high-shine metallics. Therefore, I would recommend applying foundation after doing the eyes to avoid ruining your face makeup. See below for a detailed breakdown of all 14 shades.

Nude Beach: This is a very pale golden beige shimmer. The pigmentation is semi-sheer but buildable.
Frosé: A soft pale gold with a hint of pink, Frosé is a great highlighter for the inner corner and lower lash line.
Cavern: This is a deep burgundy metallic with a warm bronze sheen. The color has a soft black base; it's sheerer than expected but builds nicely to an opaque and intense coverage.
Shore Thing: A soft rosy brown, Shore Thing is semi-sheer but non-patchy. The matte formulation is slightly powdery but still creamy.
Mermosa: This is a gorgeous rusty gold metallic. Similar to the other metallic shimmers in the palette, the formulation is pigmented but fallout-prone.
Sandbar: A light taupe brown, Sandbar is decently pigmented and non-patchy. There are some fallouts but the color blends nicely.
Shell Yeah: This is a bronze gold metallic. The formulation is very pigmented but fallout-prone.

Fin-tastic: This is an antique bronze metallic. The formulation is very smooth and pigmented.
Shipwreck: This is a muted warm brown matte. The pigmentation is decent but the texture feels slightly drier in comparison to the other mattes.
Splash: A light aquamarine blue shimmer, Splash has a pretty golden sheen. The formulation is nicely pigmented and creamy.
Salt Water: A light taupe shimmer, Salt Water is pigmented but fallout-prone.
Bubbles: This is a semi-sheer lilac/blue duochrome. The formulation is creamy and buildable.
Lagoon: A deep teal shimmer scattered with a subtle golden sparkle, Lagoon is very pigmented and creamy.

Here is a look I created using some of the metallic gold, browns, and blues. The photos are a little overexposed as the eyeshadow colors look more saturated in person. Overall this is a really cute summer palette. If you love shimmers and metallics, then it is definitely worth checking out! I did experience quite a bit of fallout but the intense pigmentation makes up for the slightly messy application. Lastly, I do wish the palette included a couple more mattes, for highlighting the brow bone and blending out the crease as I had to resort to another palette to complete the look. With that said, this is beautiful and well-made palette perfect for a younger makeup lover.
