Fresh | Kombucha 2-in-1 No-Rinse Cleanser & Prebiotic Treatment: Review
The Black Tea Kombucha Antioxidant Facial Treatment Essence from Fresh (reviewed here) has literally been one of my favorite toners (if not the favorite) for the past few years so I was very excited about the release of the new Kombucha 2-in-1 No-Rinse Cleanser & Prebiotic Treatment (C$58 for 200 ml). Described as a "one-step cleanser and treatment that removes impurities, refines the look of pores, and protects the skin's barrier", this no-rinse cleanser is formulated with prebiotic inulin, kombucha, and soapberry peel extract. Packaged in a clear plastic bottle topped with a flip cap dispenser, the Kombucha 2-in-1 No-Rinse Cleanser & Prebiotic Treatment is designed to be used as either the primary cleanser in your skincare routine or the second step in a double cleansing routine. Fresh instructs saturating a cotton pad, sweeping across the face, and repeating until the cotton pad comes away clean. The Kombucha 2-in-1 No-Rinse Cleanser is formulated with prebiotic inulin derived from chicory roots; it helps maintain the skin's microbiota to help boost its defense from environmental pollutants. The product also contains antioxidant-rich kombucha and naturally cleansing soapberry peel extract.

The formulation has a thin, watery consistency and a very light scent. It doesn't lather so it essentially feels like using micellar water to remove makeup. However, the cleanser isn't great at removing makeup, at least not thoroughly. With sunscreen and regular mascara, there's noticeable residue even after multiple wipes. As much as I like to dabble with new innovations in makeup and skincare, the no-rinse cleanser just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. If you regularly wear makeup, you would need a fistful of cotton pads for your entire face, and even that probably won't remove everything. The formulation definitely feels gentle and non-drying but it's simply not very effective. Especially in the age of COVID-19, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't thoroughly wash their face with a good cleanser and water at the end of the day. So all in all, the Kombucha 2-in-1 No-Rinse Cleanser & Prebiotic Treatment is a miss for me. I think I will use the rest of the bottle as a toner but I would recommend investing in the Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Antioxidant Facial Treatment Essence instead if you are specifically looking for a toner.
