Guerlain | Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil: Review
First introduced in 2013, the Abeille Royale Youth Watery Oil from Guerlain (reviewed here) has just received a revamp. Now formulated with 95% naturally derived ingredients and updated with a more sustainable packaging made with 10% recycled glass, the Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil (C$132 for 30 ml) continues to promise visibly plumped and radiant skin. In terms of packaging, the new Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil looks pretty much identical to its original counterpart, with the exception of a shiny gold suction bulb at the top of the pipette dropper instead of the old metallic gold bulb (you can read my review of the original version here). Not quite an oil and not quite a water, the Advanced Youth Watery Oil has a liquid consistency just a touch more viscous than water, spreading nicely on the skin like a light essence. Like before, the formulation contains nourishing royal jelly and honey, which is now sourced from four different islands in France, Greece, and Finland. Additionally, the watery oil is suspended with tiny microbeads of myrrh oil that dissolve upon contact with the skin, providing a soothing sensory experience. With a closer examination of the new ingredient list, I didn't notice any drastic changes. The order of the ingredients changed here and there but there are no addition or omission of key ingredients.

The formulation remains heavily scented, which may deter those sensitive to fragrances. The watery oil is not greasy but it does leave behind a minor slick residue. Personally, I think this is a nice addition to your skincare if you lean on the drier side and want a boost of hydration and nourishment. However, I wouldn't say that the Advanced Youth Watery Oil is one of those ride or die skincare products that everyone needs in their routine, especially given the hefty price tag (although a smaller, 15 ml size is available, as well as a 50 ml size for long time fans). So all in all, the new Advanced Youth Watery Oil stays true to its original formulation with only minor changes that don't affect its performance. If you loved the original then you will love this new "advanced" version.
