Youth To The People | Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum: Review

Youth To The People seems to be on a roll lately with one release after another! Following the recent drop of the Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum (reviewed here), the brand is blessing us with yet another serum, the new Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum (C$88 for 30 ml). Described as a "multi-effect retinal and niacinamide night serum", the product promises to visibly reduce blemishes, fine lights, and uneven skin tone. I've got all the details to share with you today. To read on, click......

Housed in a dark glass bottle with a standard pump dispenser, the Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum contains 0.15% retinal (or retinaldehyde), the immediate precursor to retinoid acid (aka the "purest" form of retinoid that the skin can directly utilize). This means that retinal is stronger than retinyl palmitate and retinol, both of which are common, over-the-counter retinoids that require additional steps to convert to retinoid acid. Quite honestly, I'm not very well versed in the world of retinoids and have only used fairly weak retinyl palmitate and retinol products. In other words, I'm not certain just how strong 0.15% of retinal is and therefore have been following the packaging direction to a T, using the serum nightly only once a week. So far, I've not experienced any dryness or sensitivities.

The formulation has your typical light yellow color found in almost all retinoid products and it also contains a healthy dose of pore-refining niacinamide (5%), nourishing squalane, antioxidant-rich mushroom extract, and moisturizing ceramides. The scent-free, silicone-free texture is lightweight and non-greasy, it blends nicely on the skin, leaving behind no noticeable residue. With once a week use for the past month, I've not seen any significant changes in my skin but I've also not experienced any sensitivities, which is a big incentive for me to continue with the product. So far, therefore, I'm quite happy with the Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum and will be slowly increasing the frequency of use to see if it makes a noticeable difference in my skin.
