Jelly makeup is one of the latest trends to hit the beauty scene, and I had not had the chance to try it until now. I was thrilled when fwee sent over their Glowy Jelly Pot (US$18 for 4g) for me to test out. Packaging:

The Glowy Jelly Pot comes in a stylish and eye-catching translucent jar with a flattened, pebble-like design. Because of the packaging and the product’s texture, it is meant to be applied using either a brush or your fingertip. Personally, I am not a fan of jarred makeup products as they tend to be less sanitary. Applying with fingertips can get messy, and using a brush means regular cleaning, which makes it less convenient overall. fwee does offer special silicone lip brushes designed specifically for the Glowy Jelly Pot, but each brush is sold separately.

Formulation:

With a bouncy jelly like formulation that provides a sheer wash of color and a dewy shine, the fwee Glowy Jelly Pot is available in 18 shades and one shimmer option for highlighting. The product has a fairly strong fruity scent. The formulation is not very easy to pick up from the pot, so you really have to dig into the product and swirl around. Alternatively, it might be helpful to use a tiny spatula or a doe foot applicator to scoop out a small amount of the balm for application. The pigmentation is fairly sheer and translucent, while the finish has a nice shine. The Glowy Jelly Pot works great on the lips as a glossy balm with minimal stickiness. On the cheeks, it provides a natural flush with a very dewy shine that some may not appreciate. The colors do not leave behind a stain and wear off fairly quickly. However, the formulation is lightweight and hydrating.

JH00 Sugar Powder: This is a noncolored shade packed with iridescent shimmer particles. The consistency of this one is much thicker and less jelly like compared to the others. Nevertheless, the shine it provides on the cheeks is more dewy than shimmery. As someone with oily combination skin, I am not a big fan of the "wet" look, but for those with drier skin, this would add a touch of sheen that can bring more life to the complexion.

JN03 Custard: This is a soft peachy beige that is neither too bright nor too dull. It is a very flattering shade perfect for everyday wear.

NS01 Rosy Glaze: This is a very pretty neutral rose. The color is super flattering, not too warm and not too cool.

JP03 Sweets: A soft petal pink, JP03 Sweets is your perfect go-to-pink.

JM01 Compote: This is a soft berry pink with a good level of pigmentation.

JC03 Juicy Punch: A soft sheer red, this shade appears much brighter and more saturated in the pot than it does on the lips or cheeks.

JR03 Cherryppo: Another shade that looks much more intense in the pot, Cherryppo is a beautiful sheer red. The color has a touch of vamp but still very wearable.

Below are cheek swatches of "JR03 Cherryppo" on its own (middle) and paired with "JH00 Sugar Powder" (right). As you can see, the Glowy Jelly Pot is buildable, but the color remains very natural and translucent. The highlighter is not overly shimmery; instead, it delivers a dewy finish with more sheen than sparkle.

Overall, this is a unique and intriguing product. The packaging is beautiful, and the shade range is very flattering. However, the innovative design feels more like a gimmick than something practical. The jelly texture is fun to play with, but the potted format makes it messier and less sanitary. I would much prefer if these came in a more traditional balm consistency with a squeeze tube dispenser.
