Shu Uemura Petal Lash Mascara: Review and Swatches
New from Shu Uemura, the Petal Lash Mascara ($29 CAD) is an all-in-one curling, lengthening, and volumizing waterproof mascara designed specifically for Asian eyes. The mascara is equipped with a unique "pink blossom applicator" that promises to coat even the tiniest corner lashes and the "3-polymer complex" formulation guarantees all-day wear. What it is:
-All-in-one mascara designed for Asian eyes
-Rice bran wax complex keeps the lash curled
-Formulated with ceramide R, bamboo complex, and pro-vitamin B5 to protect lash surface and keep them smooth and soft
-Special polymer formulation guarantees waterproof, smudge-proof 24 hour wear
-Subtle sakura scent

The Pink Blossom Applicator:
The wand of the Petal Lash mascara has a very special curved shape that helps hug the lash line. The bristles are very short which works perfectly for shorter Asian lashes as the big, long, bristles of most North American mascara tend to be very unwieldy and hard to maneuver around small lashes.
The tip of the wand is also tapered (to a width of 2mm) to really help catching those inner and corner lashes.

Formulation & Result:
I found this mascara to be very similar to my holy grail Fairy Drops Platinum Waterproof Mascara in that it holds curls very well and really helps define the lashes. The applicator works great at reaching each and every lash, coating them from root to tip. The mascara, which has a nice medium viscosity, is completely waterproof so there was no smudging or flaking but I do wish the formulation was a bit more lengthening and volumizing. Lastly, the sakura scent is a very nice addition.

Overall:
You guys must know by now how critical I am when it comes to mascaras. However, I actually quite like this one. The Petal Lash Mascara isn't as volumizing and lengthening as I would have liked (it gives a fairly natural look) but I really love the wand design, the long wearing waterproof formulation and the fact that it can really hold curls. So all in all, two thumbs up!
