Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder: Review
One of my favorite skincare products from 2016 was Tatcha's Classic Rice Enzyme Powder. The innovative powder-to-lather formulation did a fantastic job polishing and smoothing my skin so I was very excited to test out a gentler variation. Made with the anti-inflammatory and soothing extracts of the Japanese Indigo plant, the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder ($78 CAD) is perfect for sensitive skin or those that simply want a gentler version of original. Packaging:
Wrapped up in the classic Tatcha packaging printed with beautiful Japanese bamboo prints, the Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder is contained in a gorgeous deep indigo jar. The powder dispenses from a tiny spout with a slide-to-open cap. The opening does clog up pretty easily if you get water inside the jar so you have to be mindful when using this in the shower.

Formulation:
Made with finely-milled rice powder that gently exfoliates and Japanese indigo leaf extracts that soothe irritation and redness, the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder is also infused with rice bran, green tea extract, pearl protein, and algae extract. To use, simply pour a small amount of the powder (about half a teaspoon) onto wet hands and lather onto dampened skin. The powder will lather like any other face cleanser, while still retaining a tiny bit of exfoliative property.
Compared to the original Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder, the Indigo Soothing variation is a lot finer and gentler (not that the original wasn't). It doesn't have as much of a scrubby effect but it still leaves the skin very smooth and baby soft. With the original, I found that my skin can get a little dry with daily use. However, I didn't experience the same problem with this Indigo Soothing version. So if you have sensitive skin, this would be a perfect alternative to the original!
