Tarte Summer 2017 Rainforest of the Sea Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette Vol.II ($50):
A new edition of the Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette from last summer (read my review here), this is a four-shade highlighting palette. Now it was no secret that I was gravely disappointed with the original palette, given the dry and chalky formulation of the shade "Filtered Light". So I was happy to see the introduction of four new shades (5g each).

"Daylight" is a classic champagne shimmer while "Skylight" is a cool pearl shimmer. "Spotlight" appears as a soft peach in the pan but it wears a lot more gold in person. And lastly, "Candlelight" is a warm rosy gold. All four shades are well-pigmented and buttery but I find the shimmer they provide to be a bit more sparkly than glowy. Admittedly, "Daylight" and "Skylight" still provide a bit of that smooth, high-shine glow but "Spotlight" and "Candlelight" are more sparkles than sheen. Also, the formulation this year has a little more fallouts as compared to the shades "Sunlight" and "Moonlight" from the Vol.I palette. Nevertheless, these are comparatively well-formulated and the all four shades have an irresistible vanilla scent.

So I'd say depending on what you are looking for, this may or may not be your palette of choice. If you want more of a smooth, high-shine glow, then probably stick with classics like theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer. However, if you like more sparkles and micro-glitters, do check out this palette.

In addition to the new palette, Tarte is adding two new cream highlighters in the form of twist-up sticks. Now before I delve into the formulation, can we take a moment and appreciate this gorgeous packaging? The chubby metallic sticks are covered with subtle micro-shimmers and you even get some shiny mermaid scale pattern on the cap.

Available in two shades, the Twinkle Stick Highlighters are a cream highlight with a lightweight and smooth formulation. Now if you like a finer sheen, you will definitely like these. "Skylight" is a pale pearl shimmer and "Spotlight" is a soft peach-gold. Pigmentation-wise, these are very nice. They are easily blendable for a soft shimmer but you can also build the colors to a more intense strobing effect.

The wear of these is a bit lackluster as the formulation never quite sets. However, the texture isn't tacky or greasy so they do sit comfortably on the skin. The bottom line with the Twinkle Stick Highlighters is that they are very nicely formulated. However, depending on your skin type, the wear might be problematic. I'd steer away from these if you have combination to oily skin but those with dry skin will definitely appreciate the creamy and slick texture.
