Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 Collection | Neapolis: New City: Review and Swatches
Inspired by the rich history and the Mediterranean seascape of Naples, Italy, Chanel's upcoming Spring & Summer 2018 Collection is introducing a splash of fresh, crisp colors. Lovingly created by Lucia Pica, the global creative director of Chanel Beauty, the Neapolis: New City Collection is bound to awe. Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Les 9 Ombres in "Édition N°1: Affresco" ($98 CAD):
Containing 6.3g of products, this is a nine-shade eyeshadow palette housed in a simple but classy black compact. Divided into three trios, the palette includes three mattes and six shimmers. Chanel eyeshadows can be kind of hit and miss but the colors in this palette are excellent. With the exception of the matte soft carbon, which is a tad sheer, every shade is silky, smooth, and nicely pigmented. Additionally, I like how the colors in the palette complement each other. You get your bold jewel tones, neutral blending shades, deeper crease colors, and natural highlighting shades.

Here is a tropical look I created with the palette. I used the gold, green, and blue on the lid, the matte beige brown in the crease, and the pearly pink on the brow bone.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Joues Contraste Powder Blush in "430 Foschia Rose"
Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Joues Contraste Powder Blush in "430 Foschia Rose" ($53 CAD):
A sunny coral pink with a subtle splash of golden shimmers, "430 Foschia Rose" (translates to "mist rose") is a silky and pigmented powder blush. The color is very flattering for both spring and summer and the formulation wears all day with minimal fading.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Poudres à Lèvres in "418 Rosa Tempera"
Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Poudres à Lèvres Lip Balm & Powder Duo in "418 Rosa Tempera" ($44 CAD):
Housed in the classic lacquered black Chanel compact, this is a unique lip color consisting of a clear lip balm and a bright coral pink lip powder. Also included are two mini applicators- a mini lip brush and a small sponge applicator. To use, dab the balm on the lips using your fingertip. Afterwards, using either the brush or the sponge, dab the lip powder onto the center of the lips and blend outward for a soft, watercolor effect.

I've previously used a similar product from the Lancome Olympia Le-Tan palette (see here) and I'm not completely sold on the lip powder idea. This is essentially the equivalent of rubbing a powder blush on top of a lip balm. The finished effect is very natural and flattering but the pigments tend to emphasize dry patches. Additionally, the color fades very quickly, leaving the lips feeling rather dry and wrinkly. I applaud Chanel for offering something a little more unconventional but I would recommend sticking to a regular sheer lipstick if you just want a soft flush of color on your lips.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Rouge Allure Velvet in "65 L'Aristocratica" ($43 CAD):
Housed in the classic gold and black lipstick tube, the Rouge Allure Velvet in "65 L'Aristocratica" is a light peach nude with a soft satin finish. The pigmentation is on the sheerer side so the color applies a little unevenly. Unless you have very pale lips, the finish will look streaky and creased.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Rouge Coco Gloss in "786 Sibylla" ($37 CAD):
This is a milky warm pink lip gloss with a very shiny finish. The color is sheer but the application is smooth and even. The formulation is non-tacky and it keeps the lips feeling soft and moisturized.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Rouge Allure Ink in "164 Entusiasta" ($43 CAD):
An eye-catching orange-red, "164 Entusiasta" (translates to "enthusiast"), is a liquid lipstick with a thin, lightweight formulation. The color is very pigmented but there is some patchiness so a couple of layers are needed for an opaque finish. The formulation has a soft satin shine at first and then completely sets to a matte finish after ~15 minutes. The lip color is not transfer-proof and there is subtle creasing and "cracking" after about 30 minutes. However, everything smooths out if you run your fingertip across your lips. With minimal eating and drinking, you can get at least five or six hours of wear.

Chanel Spring & Summer 2018 | Le Vernis in "588 Nuvola Rosa" ($32 CAD):
This is a pastel cool-tone pink polish. The formulation is a little sheer but creamy. With a careful application, two coats will provide a decently opaque finish.

Above is a full face makeup I created using the Les 9 Ombres palette, the Powder Blush, and the Rouge Allure Ink. Overall, this is a beautiful range with some fresh and fun spring colors. My personal favorites are the Les 9 Ombres palette, the Powder Blush, the Rouge Coco Gloss, and the Le Vernis polish in "590 Verde Pastello". What are your thoughts on this collection?
