Givenchy | Le Rouge Liquide: Review and Swatches
New from Givenchy comes a 14-shade liquid lipstick collection that promises to defy all expectations. With the tagline of "this is not what you think", the Le Rouge Liquide ($44 CAD for 3 ml) looks just like the signature Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick but actually comes with a flocked, slant-tip applicator and a twist-to-dispense mechanism. I've got three shades to share with you today. To read my review and see some swatches, click......

Packaging:
Housed in a reflective silver case decorated with a faux-leather wrap, the Le Rouge Liquide looks almost identical to the original Givenchy Le Rouge Lipstick but with a slightly longer body. However, instead of a solid lipstick bullet, the Le Rouge Liquide case contains a cream formulation that dispenses from a small hole when the base is twisted. The slanted applicator is shaped like a traditional teardrop lipstick bullet and it's flocked like a doe-foot applicator. Because the slant tip is quite large and non-flexible, it's not great at providing a smooth and precise application so I ended up using a disposable doe-foot with all three shades to achieve clean lines and a streak-free coverage. Additionally, I find it rather difficult to control just how much product comes out. It seems with even the slightest twist, a large amount rushes right out. And because the tip is flocked and tapered in a certain way, a lot of lipstick either gets trapped in the fiber or gets pushed down along the side of the bullet.

Formulation:
With a rather thick, cream-like formulation, the Le Rouge Liquide is described as a "long-wearing, soft velvet matte liquid lipstick". The pigmentation is very impressive as even the lighter shade I got provides an even, opaque coverage. The formulation glides on very smoothly and it feels pretty hydrating thanks to the hyaluronic acid and acmella flower oil. The finish, however, is not very matte as all three shades have a noticeable sheen. As the day goes on and with eating and drinking, the shine does fade significantly but the finish is still satin at best. In terms of wear, the Le Rouge Liquide fares okay. Because the formulation does not dry down, it will transfer and fade with light drinking and eating.

101 Nude Cachemire: Described as the perfect nude, Nude Cachemire is a light warm pink. I didn't think it would look very good based on the swatches on the back of my hand but it was surprisingly flattering against my skin tone. It did make my teeth look a little yellow so I would not recommend it to anyone who's already insecure with their teeth color.
306 Orange Plumetis: A bright coral red, Orange Plumetis is nicely pigmented and easy to apply. The color is definitely out of my comfort zone but it's a great summer color.
412 Grenat Alpaga: This is a deep, vampy burgundy. I was worried that the shade might be super patchy and although I expected a slightly uneven application on the upper lip, the color is very buildable.

Overall the Le Rouge Liquide is a nice range of creamy liquid lipsticks. The packaging looks super cool and sleek but the large slant applicator and the twist-to-dispense mechanism are not very impractical. In terms of formulation, the lipsticks are nicely pigmented and nourishing but because they don't completely set, they will transfer and fade with eating and drinking. If you enjoy the likes of Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet or Lise Watier Baiser Satin Liquid Lipsticks, then definitely check these!
