Nude & Crude | Shower Powder: Review
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a new Canadian company called Nude & Crude that's offering a range of vegan, non-toxic, and environmentally sustainable powdered body wash. Designed to replace wasteful liquid body wash that requires plastic packaging and bar soaps that are sometimes just too slippery and clumsy to use, Nude & Crude has designed four essential oil-scented Shower Powder (C$12.99 for 113 g) that will last up to 40 or more uses. Nude & Crude | Shower Powder
The Nude & Crude Shower Powder comes in a cardboard carton that's made with 98% recyclable material. To dispense the powder, simply punch-out the small window opening on the side. I'm a big fan of the environmentally friendly and mostly water-proof packaging but I do wish that the carton was assembled in a more precise manner. Two out of the three cartons I received have small gaps on the bottom corners so the powder leaks out whenever the carton is moved around. Given the travel-friendly format of shower powders, I hope that Nude & Crude can come up with a more secure and resealable packaging that will prevent leakage during transportation.

Now let's delve into the formulation. Available in four scents (Uplifting Lemongrass, Tranquilizing Lavender, Energizing Sweet Orange, and Purifying Peppermint), the Nude & Crude Shower Powder is made with a potato starch and oatmeal flour base. Sodium cocoyl isethionate and coco glucoside are added as the foaming agents and kaolin clay is used to absorb oil and other impurities on the skin. Glycerin and apricot kernel oil are used to nourish the skin and aloe juice provides moisturization. Additionally, pure essential oils are added for a pleasant scent.
To use, Nude & Crude instructs to lather a half teaspoon of powder between the palms. I find the powder a bit lumpy and difficult to spread this way so I would recommend using it with a loofah. In which case, it lathers just like a liquid body wash or a solid bar soap. However, I do find that I need more than the recommended half a teaspoon to wash my entire body. The formulation rinses easily and it leaves the skin cleansed and softened with no discernable residue.
Overall, I'm a fan of the Nude & Crude philosophy and the clean ingredients used in the shower powders. The formulation performs just as well as other forms of body cleanser but the packaging stands to benefit from some improvements in leakage prevention. If you are thinking of switching to more natural, enviornmentally friendly products, then the Nude & Crude Shower Powder is definitely a must-try!
