Bite Beauty | Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick: Review and Swatches
As you may know by now, Bite Beauty has been updating its whole product line to make everything clean and vegan. The brand is best known for its lipsticks and it has finally unveiled its first revamped lipstick range! Available in 20 flattering shades, most of which are inspired by or identical to some of the brand's old faves, the new Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick (C$37 for 4 g) promises a hydrating matte finish. I've got reviews and swatches of a handful of shades to share with you today. To check them out, click......

Packaging:
Despite the reformulation and the new name, the Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick comes in the same old matte gray packaging that we've come to expect from Bite lipsticks. The lipstick bullet has the classic teardrop taper and it has the Bite "B" etched on the side.

Formulation:
As far as I can recall, Bite actually never released a matte lipstick before so the Power Move Soft Matte Lipstick is a first. Formulated with cocoa butter and tapioca pearls mixed with fatty acid waxes, the Power Move Soft Matte Lipsticks feature a smooth and reasonably pigmented formulation. The colors apply effortlessly with no tugging and they have a natural matte finish. Unfortunately, the lipstick is very silicone-heavy so the color doesn't cling well to the lips, resulting in a patchy, uneven application for some of the colors. Additionally, the longevity is not great, especially in comparison to some of the other matte lipsticks on the market. With that said, the formulation feels comfortable on the lips; the finish is lightweight and non-drying. Overall, I'm not in love. When it comes to matte lipsticks, I prefer a low-silicone, high-pigment formulation that really clings to the lips for a longer wear, even if it is a bit drying. With that said, I think this range will find an audience and some shades perform better than the others. See below for a breakdown of the six shades I have.

Sugar Buns: This is a beautiful muted rose nude. The formulation is pigmented and smooth. The finish is pretty nice and even as well.

Juniper: A pretty rose pink, Juniper has a particularly silicone-y texture that makes the finish look a bit cakey. However, the pigmentation is pretty strong so the color is not patchy.

Cayenne: This is a bright warm red. The pigmentation is decent but the finish is just a touch uneven.

Hot Tomato: A bright cool red, Hot Tomato is pretty much identical to Cayenne in terms of formulation. The finish is mostly opaque but if you look up close there are definitely some areas where the pigments don't cling as well.

Radicchio: This is a beautiful dark berry. As you can see in the lip swatch below, the finish is unfortunately patchy and no matter how much I build, the color just doesn't adhere properly to certain parts of the lips.

Tannin: Another stunning color that's unfortunately diminished by the patchy coverage, Tannin is a beautiful deep red. Perhaps both this shade and Radicchio can be rescued with a good lip liner (applied all over the lips as a base) but I don't recommend them for the uneven coverage.
