Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette: Review and Swatches
Released earlier this year with its cool-tone sister (the Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette, reviewed here), the Monarch Eyeshadow Palette ($58 CAD) from Kat Von D is a captivating warm-tone palette filled with gorgeous golds, browns, oranges in various finishes. To see just how amazing these shadows are (and they are pretty amazing), click......

Packaging:
The Monarch Palette comes in a compact rectangular cardboard box. I've mentioned before that I much prefer metal or plastic packagings but the pretty design of this one is almost impossible to not love. The front features a beautiful butterfly with shiny gold embossings and the back has the names of the shades printed for easy reference.

Formulation & Colors:
The palette is divided into three sections, each with a slightly different color scheme.
Group 1:
1. Entomology: This is a gorgeous matte cream. This one is quite soft so it gets pretty messy but the formulation is amazing; it's pigmented and blends like a dream.
2. Wrath: A rich coppery orange with micro copper sparkles, this is a unique and surprisingly wearable color. The formulation is superb, pigmented and creamy.
3. Papilio: This is the ultimate brown metallic. Imagine everything you want in a shadow, this one's got it!
4. Summerfly: Ugh! Where do I even begin? Summerfly is an incredibly pigmented and buttery gold. So gorgeous!

Group 2:
1. Telepathy: This is a silver metallic with a slight taupey creamy undertone. The pigmentation is amazing, it almost feels like a cream shadow.
2. Killing Jar: This is a soft taupey peach metallic. I am starting to sound like a broken record but the formulation is amazing!
3. Delany: A silver with a slightly smoky feel-another hit!
4. Vanish: Is there such a thing as a creamy matte? Apparently yes, Vanish is a taupey grey with a soft, buttery and pigmented formula.

Group 3:
1. Tiny Death: This is a pale matte beige with silver sparkles. The formulation is a bit dry, not my favorite of the bunch.
2. Disintegration: This is a soft metallic taupe, decent pigmentation and nice texture.
3. Shadow Box: This is a matte brown. The formula could be a bit more pigmented and less patchy.
4. Deadhead: This is a matte black and I know what you are thinking, it's probably super dry and chalky like every other matte black shadow on the market. However, this one is incredibly pigmented and actually quite soft and rich! Just check out how nicely it swatches!

Overall:
What an amazing palette, 14 out of 16 of the colors are phenomenal and because I love warm-tone shadows, this palette gets extra brownie points. If I were to choose between this and the Chrysalis Palette, I'd pick this one is a heartbeat; that gold and that metallic brown (Papilio) alone makes my heart race. So all in all, you need this!
