Sephora Gold Star Prestige Pro Brush Set: Review
When it comes to buying gifts for makeup lovers, it can be really hard to find the right thing unless you know exactly what they want. So for that reason, I love giving and receiving brush sets- you can never have too many makeup brushes!
Sephora Collection has an incredible range of makeup brush sets this holiday and today I want to review for you a super fancy set called the Gold Star Prestige Pro Brush Set ($169 CAD). To see lots of photos and my thoughts, click......

Packaging:
The Gold Star Prestige Pro Brush Set comes in a beautiful gift-ready golden box. Once opened, the box reveals two compartments: one with all 12 pieces of brushes and one with a soft faux leather cream-colored carrying case.
The case has a metallic gold exterior and the inside has designated slots for each of the brushes. The case closes with a magnetic closure and there are soft flaps inside the pouch to help protect the bristles. In terms of quality, the pouch feels incredibly luxurious, but there is a bit of a design flaw: the pouch cannot close properly.
Due to the placement of the powder brush's slot (this brush can't fit anywhere else), the flap has trouble reaching all the way down to where the magnetic closures can touch. It's not a huge problem but I wish they had tested this during the design process.

The Brushes:
The brushes in the Gold Star Prestige Pro Brush Set include an assortment of synthetic, cruelty-free animal hair, or a blend of animal and synthetic brushes. I personally like animal hair brushes more because they have a lot more texture that picks up products (especially eyeshadows) better. The set includes 12 brushes- 4 for face, 7 for eyes, and 1 for lips. In terms of brush selection, I think the majority of these are great though I do wish they included an angled brow/liner brush.
The quality of these, needless to say, are pretty darn amazing. The brushes are incredibly soft and there is no shedding whatsoever.
  • Powder brush (goat/synthetic fibers)
  • Angled blush brush (goat/synthetic fibers)
  • Foundation brush (synthetic fibers)
  • Concealer brush (synthetic fibers)
  • Allover shadow brush (pony/ox fibers)
  • Small eye shadow brush (pony/ox fibers)
  • Smudge brush (pony/ox fibers)
  • Crease brush (goat fibers)
  • Liner brush (synthetic fibers)
  • Lip brush with cap (synthetic fibers)
  • Brow comb and spoolie (synthetic fibers)- the spoolie is hidden underneath the brow/lash comb, which can be removed like a cap
  • Smoky eye brush (synthetic fibers)
Update:
After washing the powder brush just once, it started shedding quite a bit, which is definitely very disappointing given how expensive this set is.

Overall:
Although a tad pricey, this set is definitely an amazing gift for any makeup lover. The packaging is beautiful and given the quality and brush selection, the value of this set is actually quite good. Definitely check this out (and the other brush sets in the Sephora Collection) the next time you visit Sephora!
