For 2017, the Mugler Angel family is expanding once again with a new interpretation of the classic. Named Angel Étoile Des Rêves Eau de Parfum ($146 CAD), the new fragrance is a more delicate nighttime scent that promises to reveal a more sensual side of Angel. To read all about it, click.......
The Bottle:
Housed in a frosted orb covered in little craters and star silhouettes, the actual perfume of Mugler Angel Étoile Des Rêves is tinted dark blue. With a vintage squeeze bulb dispenser attached directly to the neck of the bottle, Étoile Des Rêves will definitely stand out on your vanity. I am quite fond of the classic squeeze bulb perfume bottles but I do wish that Mugler did something a bit fancier with the bulb design. For Étoile Des Rêves, all you get is a satin blue covering while a more glittery or elaborate design could have been used for a more luxurious feel.
The Fragrance:
It is no secret that I loathe the original Mugler Angel. With just about every note in the encyclopedia of perfume ingredients (and with a heavy emphasis on patchouli), Mugler Angel is incredibly pungent to the point of nausea. So with that expectation in mind, I was pretty apprehensive about Mugler Angel Étoile Des Rêves. Especially with a name that alludes to a stronger nighttime fragrance, Étoile Des Rêves (Star of Dreams) took me by surprise. Although not completely different from the original, this scent has a much lighter, fresher scent profile. I still detect some patchouli but it is very nicely balanced with a milky, cakey sweetness that's not sickly sweet.
Availability:
Mugler fragrances are available in stores and online at Hudson's Bay and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Top Notes: Bergamot, mandarin.
Heart Notes: Vanilla, patchouli.
Base Notes: Praline, vanilla, white musk.
With a noticeably shorter list of ingredients, Étoile Des Rêves doesn't overwhelm, while still retaining the heart and soul of what make Mugler Angel the cult-favorite it still is today. Although I can't say this is a fragrance I love, it certainly is the first Mugler Angel fragrance that I actually like! If you love the original Angel, then check this one out. If you hated the original Angel, still check this out because it may just change your mind!
