Clarisonic Sonic Foundation Brush Head: Review
Earlier this year, Clarisonic unleashed its newest innovation with the Sonic Foundation Brush Head ($39 CAD). Designed to fit any Clarisonic model, this makeup brush promises to flawlessly apply all liquid and cream complexion products. So does this brush head trump every other makeup brush on the market? Read my review to find out......

Compatible with all Clarisonic devices (all the Mia models, FIT, and Smart Profile), this is a foundation brush that can be used with all types of liquid and cream products (ex. concealer, cream contour, cream blush). Made with synthetic bristles of varying length and thickness, the Sonic Foundation Brush Head has a circular shape and a flattened top. There is a small divot in the middle of the brush, which serves as a foundation reservoir. It prevents excess foundation from being pushed deeper into the bristles, which allows you to use less foundation than with regular foundation brushes.

The bristles feel soft but firm but when I first opened the packaging, there was a lot of shedding. Bristle after bristle just kept on coming off of the base and I honestly thought that I got a defective brush head. However, after running my thumb across the bristles for a good few minutes, all the loose bristles fell off and the brush head lost not another single bristle since. So if you are using a new brush for the first time, make sure to use a moderate amount of force to get rid of all the loose bristles. Now to use the Sonic Foundation Brush Head, simply swap off your normal Clarisonic Cleanser Brush Head and pop it right onto the device. If your Clarisonic features speed adjustment, use a slower oscillation for a sheer to a medium coverage and a higher oscillation for a fuller coverage.
So, how effective is this thing at applying foundation? Well, it works pretty darn well! However, the fact is this. If you are using it with a great foundation that otherwise has no application problems with a regular foundation brush, the Sonic Foundation Brush will perform great, if not slightly better than the regular brush. If you are working with a problematic formulation, though, it's not going to make magic happen. So depending on the quality of the foundation you are applying, the brush will perform accordingly. The gentle oscillating motion definitely takes the work out of having to manually buff things in. All you have to do is keep the brush moving around on the face but application around the nose and mouth is a little trickier given the size of the brush. Nevertheless, it gets the job done and it gets it done well.

With that said, the brush head does have some what I consider to be shortcomings. Because it is a brush head attachment, it should ideally be removed from the device before cleaning. I know this is such a miniscule step but for someone who hates washing makeup brushes, this extra little step makes the process so much more cumbersome. Additionally, unless you have a Clarisonic device dedicated for use with the Sonic Foundation Brush Head, you will have to constantly swap between the foundation brush head and the cleansing brush head. I gave my extra Clarisonic devices to my mom and friends so my Smart Body is my only device and when I was testing out the foundation brush head, I basically stopped using the cleansing brush because it was just too much hassle to swap between them on a daily basis.
Overall, the Clarisonic Sonic Foundation Brush Head is a great innovation. It flawlessly applies foundations and helps eliminate manual buffing and blending. However, unless you have a Clarisonic device you can dedicate solely for the purpose of foundation application, the brush head may not be as practical as intended. Nevertheless, if you own a Clarisonic then this is definitely an attachment worth trying out!
