When it comes to new releases,
Bite Beauty really seems to take their time. With only a few new products each year, everything is innovative and well-executed. So when I saw the announcement of the new
Outburst Longwear Lip Stain ($30 CAD for 2 g), I was beyond excited! Described as a unique "high-impact, low-maintenance lip stain", the formulation is a cross between a luxe balm and a long-lasting stain. Curious? Read my review and see some swatches to learn all about them......
Packaging:
The Bite Beauty Outburst Longwear Lip Stains are housed in a matte granite gray lipstick tube. The packaging is much slimmer and longer than the Bite Amuse Bouche Lipsticks (reviewed
here,
here,
here, and
here) and they contain less than half the product (2 g versus 4.35 g). However, as the colors are much longer lasting, I guess you won't be re-applying as often.
Formulation:
Infused with oils of coconut, passionflower, and sunflower for hydration and pinewood resin and sunflower seed wax for longevity, the Outburst Longwear Lip Stain is not much of a lip stain in the traditional sense. Instead of providing a textureless color (as you would expect from a liquid lip stain), this is essentially a very pigmented lipstick with a strong staining effect. The slick and emollient formulation is opaque in a couple of swipes and the finish has a natural sheen. The color is not transfer-proof but as the pigments wear off with eating and drinking, a strong stain is left behind.
Currently, only three shades are available. "
Orange Fizz" is a bright orange-red and it leaves behind a summery orange stain. "
Sangria Slush" is a bold rich red and it leaves a deep pink stain. Finally, "
Strawberry Frozé" is a Barbie pink and it leaves behind a bright pink stain. As the Outburst Longwear name suggests, the stain indeed lasts very long. It slowly fades with eating and drinking but the finish does not become visibly splotchy. The only downside of such an intense staining effect is the removal process. Even with multiple rounds of vigorous scrubbing, rubbing, and rinsing (using water-based, oil-based, and bi-phase removers), some color still remains. The inner rim of the mouth, in particular, gets really stained. So if come the next day and you want to pull off a sheer lip or just a lip balm for work or functions that don't call for a bright lip, you are out of luck as some color patches will invariably remain!
In summary, the Bite Beauty Outburst Longwear Lipstain is a very strong, long-lasting non-traditional lip stain. If you are a fan of texture-free lip stains that only provide color but no finish, this won't be your cup of tea. However, if you are looking for a nourishing, pigmented lipstick that leaves behind a budge-proof stain, then definitely give it a go! "Sangria Slush" and "Strawberry Frozé" leaves behind a stronger stain than "Orange Fizz" but all three colors are just gorgeous for the warmer weather to come!
