Sahajan | Brightening Mask: Review
Earlier this year when the Indigo Robson St location in Vancouver introduced its Beauty & Wellness Shop offering an extensive selection of clean and eco-conscious products, they sent over a handful of wonderful skincare products available at the shop for me to try out. One of the products that really caught my eyes is the Brightening Mask (C$64 for 50 ml) from Sahajan. Derived from the Hindi word for "intuitive", Sahajan is a natural skincare brand inspired by Ayurveda, the 5000-year-old alternative medicine from India and Nepal. The Brightening Mask, in particular, is inspired by the pre-wedding Haldi ceremony during which the bride dons a cleansing turmeric mask. To read all about this mask, click......
Sahajan | Brightening Mask: Review
Sahajan | Brightening Mask
Housed in a simple glass jar, the Sahajan Brightening Mask is a cream mask formulated with antioxidant-rich turmeric extract, brightening and smoothing glycolic acid (an AHA) from lemon, orange, and bilberry, and nourishing hemp seed oil and shea butter. With a rich, creamy consistency that's surprisingly not very yellow, the Sahajan Brightening Mask spreads easily on the skin. Although containing kaolin clay, the mask does not dry down like a traditional clay mask. Perhaps my skin has been a little sensitive lately but despite having lots of experience with AHAs in the past, I found the formulation a bit irritating. The mask feels stingy after application, which is not unexpected but after removal, my skin was quite red and remained so for a good few hours. I've had similar experiences with other AHA masks (ex. Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Full Strength, Prism AHA + BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial) but I feel that the prolonged redness with the Sahajan formulation is an indication that it's too strong for me. So for that reason, I would only recommend this product to seasoned AHA users and not anyone with sensitive skin. If you are looking for a fun turmeric mask, I would recommend checking out the Kiehl's Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque instead although it does not contain any AHA. If you are looking for a gentler AHA mask, I recommend checking out the Biossance Squalane + Glycolic Renewal Mask.
