After drooling over the absolutely stunning aesthetic and branding of Herbivore for many years, I've finally had the fortune to receive some press samples from the brand, including its latest release, the Moon Fruit 1% Bakuchiol + Peptides Retinol Alternative Serum. Formulated with clean and effective ingredients, Herbivore products are vegan and cruelty-free. Read my review of the Moon Fruit Serum, the Nova Vitamin C Serum, and the Prism Glow Facial today......

Herbivore | Moon Fruit 1% Bakuchiol + Peptides Retinol Alternative Serum (C$78 for 30 ml):
Packaged in an adorable lavender-tinted glass bottle with a pump dispenser, the Herbivore Moon Fruit Serum is an anti-aging serum made with 1% bakuchiol. An extract from the babchi plant, Bakuchiol has been making lots of waves in the skincare community lately. Plauded as a gentle but still effective retinol-alternative, bakuchiol banishes wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, inflammation, and bacteria while also boosting collagen production. The Moon Fruit Serum also contains firming and tightening plant peptides and Schisandra berry extract. With a pale lavender color and a lightweight but creamy consistency, the Moon Fruit 1% Bakuchiol + Peptides Retinol Alternative Serum has added fragrance and it applies super smoothly onto the skin. The formulation feels instantly nourishing thanks to the jojoba oil but it does not feel heavy or greasy. So far, I've not experienced any pilling or patching so the Moon Fruit Serum pairs nicely with other skincare products.

The main appeal of bakuchiol is its gentle nature as compared to retinol, which tends to cause dryness and sensitivities. I am happy to report that so far I've not experienced any adverse reactions with the Herbivore Moon Fruit Serum. So the real question is whether or not it is as effective as a retinol serum. As someone who's only starting to see some signs of fine lines (I'm turning 30 this year) and as someone who only recently incorporated retinol into my regular skincare routine (I've been using the Retinal + Niacinamide Youth Serum from Youth To The People once a week for the past two months), I honestly can't say. All I can know is that the Herbivore formulation feels amazing and I've not experienced any sensitivities so far. In my opinion, if you are already a regular retinol user and are not struggling with any side effects, then you should probably just stick with retinol. However, if you are someone who has always wanted to get into retinol but don't have patience with the side effects that occur before developing tolerance, then definitely give this serum a try!

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Triheptanoin, Propanediol, C9-12 Alkane, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Glycerin, Melia Azadirachta Flower Extract, Bakuchiol, Schisandra Chinensis Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Eragrostis Tef Seed Extract, Anigozanthos Flavidus Flower/Leaf Extract, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Morus Alba Fruit Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Nut Extract, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside Sclerotium Gum, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Citric Acid, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Phytate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lauryl Glucoside, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, Diisopropyl Adipate, Triethyl Citrate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Rosa Damascena Extract, Alcohol, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Musa Sapientum (Banana) Fruit Extract Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Leaf/Twig Extract, Cinnamomum Camphora Linalooliferum Wood Extract.
Packaged in the same adorable glass pump bottle as the Moon Fruit Serum, but in yellow, the Nova 15% Vitamin C + Turmeric Brightening Serum is described as a "potent brightening serum that visibly improves dark spots and evens skin tone". Made with 15% THD vitamin C (a more stable form of vitamin C), the Nova Serum also contains a good dose of antioxidant-rich turmeric. Similar to the Moon Fruit Serum, the Nova Serum has a very smooth, creamy, and non-greasy formulation. It layers beautifully without pilling, perfect for both day and night use. Even after the first use, I noticed a brighter complexion so this definitely ranks high on the list of vitamin C serums I've tried in the past (although it is on the pricier end). If you are already a fan of vitamin C serums, then I would definitely recommend giving this a go if are willing to splurge. However, if you are brand new to vitamin C, you might want to start with something cheaper just to whet your appetite.

Herbivore | Prism AHA + BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial (C$75 for 50 ml):
A bestseller from the brand, the Prism AHA + BHA Exfoliating Glow Facial comes in the most stunning pink glass jar coated with a transparent rainbow chrome finish. Formulated with 20% AHA (a combination of sugar cane glycolic acid, bilberry lactic acid, and sugar maple tartaric/malic acid) and 10% BHA (aka salicylic acid derived from willow bark), the Prism Mask has a completely clear and runny gel consistency. As much as I love the gorgeous packaging, I do wish the mask came in a squeeze or pump bottle instead as it feels messy and unsanitary to dip my fingers into a jar of liquidy gel. Nevertheless, the mask is easy to apply and easy to remove. There's a slight stinging sensation upon application and I experienced some redness after removal (which is not abnormal). My skin definitely felt smoother after use but I'm not sure this is a must-have product for me. Especially given the price, I would probably opt for a weaker AHA/BHA toner or serum appropriate for daily use instead of this potent mask formulation for twice-a-week application. With that said, if you are someone that only wants to use a chemical peel every once in a while, then this mask might be worth a try!
