As someone with oily combination skin who chronically struggles with congested, enlarged pores, salicylic acid (a type of beta hydroxy acid, also known as BHA) is one of the key ingredients I consistently look for in skincare. Lately, I’ve been on a bit of a BHA toner binge, testing out everything from the St. Ives BHA Exfoliating Toner to the SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner, Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner, Isntree Chestnut BHA 2% Clear Liquid, and the PanOxyl Clarifying Exfoliant with 2% Salicylic Acid. 

Naturally, the Naturium BHA Liquid Exfoliant 2% (C$29.99 for 120 ml) made its way onto my list of BHA toners to try. Sitting comfortably in the midrange price tier, this toner is formulated with encapsulated salicylic acid and bioactive fruit acids that gently exfoliate the skin to "reduce the appearance of pores, smooth and even skin tone, and reveal more radiant, brighter looking skin." Recently I've been experiencing quite a bit of pore congestion and hormonal acne so I wanted to re-introduce BHA (beta hydroxy/salicylic acid) back into my skincare routine. However, as mentioned in past skincare reviews (ex. my post on the Paula's Choice 2% BHA Skin Exfoliant), I am very sensitive to salicylic acid, which usually results in irritation and dryness for me even after just a couple of uses. Earlier this year I finished a bottle of the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner (reviewed here) and found the betaine salicylate used in place of salicylic acid to be much gentler but just as effective. Therefore, I decided to give the brand's best-selling One Step Original Clear Pad (~C$22 for 70 Sheets) a try.
