Day 26: I Am Attracted To......

I am attracted to guys who are:
  • funny/good-humored
  • friendly
  • spontaneous
  • open minded
  • quirky
  • generous
  • honest and straightforward
That's all I can think of... I guess I am attracted to people who are similar to me because I don't buy the whole "opposites attract" thing. I remember reading in my social psychology text book that people tend to end up with people who are similar to themselves because they get along better, so I guess I am keeping my eyes out for the male version of myself hehe.

Day 21: Arrested Development

Let's see, what can I say about Arrested Development? I don't know, I think it is pretty darn simply one of the most hilarious shows you will watch. The humor is silly, quirky, and witty and sometimes so subtle that you do not catch them the first time around. I watched it on Netflix a couple of years ago and instantly fell in love with all the ridiculous and yet very loveable characters.
I won't waste time trying to convince you how good the show is, so if you are curious, take a look at this clip:

Day 19 & 20: Parents and Education

Disrespecting My Parents:
I don't think I act disrespectfully towards my parents that much, most definitely not towards my dad because he can be very stern and scary. But I guess I am a lot more "improper" with my mom and that is because she is very childish in nature, very dependent upon us and ver not authoritative. So sometimes I take advantage of that and project whatever negative emotions I experience onto her. I am not proud of it and I try not to do it. But because she is the way she is, she lets me get away with it, and I am thankful for how forgiving she can be.

The Importance of Education:
As a college student, I say of course education is important. Our society puts such a heavy emphasis on a good solid education that it is hard to thrive without one. However, I think the way we define a good education is very limited; it seems that the government and the society believes we can only get a decent education in a classroom and certain things can only be taught in a certain way. Often we don't have that much freedom in choosing what we want to learn and when that's the case, education can be unbearably boring.

Day 18: I Believe....

Agh, today's topic is way too vague, I can't come up with anything, so here is a very appropriate video.

Day 17: Highs and Lows

My low of the past little while was probably the lowest of all my lows. It was the months during and after a terrible ending to a unhealthy "relationship". It was the first time in my life that I came to the sad realization that another person can make me feel so miserable, guilty, shameful, and heartbroken all at the same time. For several months, I had difficulties concentrating on anything and my grades suffered quite a bit; I woke up every morning with the most painful feeling in my chest and the mentioning of his name makes my heart palpitate. I kept on going back again and again on what happened and how I could have let those things happen... But I am alright now.
So I guess that brings me to my high, it's not quite a high but getting over the whole thing was a big accomplishment for me. It took a lot of time and thinking, but I concluded that though I wasn't completely blame free, I shouldn't have to forever suffer from the terrible actions of a selfish and despicable person who isn't worth my time. I am glad to report that I no longer wake up in the morning with a bitter taste in my month, and when I do think of him, it is usually accompanied by the thought: "whew, glad I dodged that bullet". ;)

Day 16: Mainstream Music

I guess most of the music I listen to nowadays isn't mainstream. Back in elementary and high school though, mainstream/top 40s was all that I listened to! Well, at that age, most kids just listened to whatever everyone else listened to, which was whatever was on the radio. It wasn't until grade nine or ten that I started discovering indie music and man was I glad I did that. This song I am linking you is the first "non mainstream" music I ever listened to, it was one of those Starbucks free download of the week. I remember downloading it with my friend, and she said it sounded weird while I sat there thinking: huh this is so different but I love it!

The Sound by Human Highway on Grooveshark

So I guess I feel ambivalent about mainstream music; every once in a while, a good song makes it to the top 40s (and hey they are fun to dance to) but I think most of the good bands are buried underneath all the Justin Biebers and Selena Gomezs and you gotta do a little digging to get to them.
As always, thanks for stopping by!

Day 15: My Favorite Tumblrs

I don't tumble (or is it tumbl), and I honestly only know of two people who use tumblr, so I will link y'all to them. The first one is from a cool friend of mine, she basically re-blogs interesting/cute/funny images she sees on tumblr (some of them are quite endearing). The second one is from a guy I know, most the posts on his tumblr are poems he writes himself; they are quite deep!

Day 14: My Earliest Memories

I remember when I was very very little, every morning after I wake up, my mom would put me on her lap and help me get dressed. I also remember that my dad use to sing  and read to me whenever he isn't away on site visits, it was very sweet. These memories are of course all very vague, but they have stuck with me through the years nevertheless.

Day 13: Somewhere I Like To Visit

Because school is always so busy, the last time I went anywhere was two years ago and it was a road trip with my parents to Yellowstone National Park.
Honestly I don't really have a specific place I would like to go, as long as I travel with people I enjoy spending time with, I will be content.

Day 11: Ten Songs From iPod on Shuffle

So today's prompt asks us to put our iPod on shuffle and share the ten songs that came up. Here are mine, I linked them via Grooveshark so you can check them out if you want (check out "Teardrop Windows"). A few of these are pretty darn old and a few are newer indie/alternative rock; I even have a couple of Top 40's. Hope you enjoy!

Day 10: First Kiss and First Love

Well, I feel slightly awkward because I don't have much to share here. I have only once in my life felt like I found someone special but that ended disastrously, but in conclusion, my first love and first kiss have yet to happen. Ta-daaaa!

Day 9: The Future... Dun Dun Dun...

Ideally, in the far away (but not too far) future,
I would be working as a doctor.
I would have bought my parents a new house and be living near them.
I would be in a happy relationship and have adopted a baby girl.
I would spend my free time (if I get any) biking and running and watching movies with my family.
I would still bake whenever I get the time.
I probably would be living somewhere else, somewhere less rainy.
I would still be in touch with the friends I have today.
I would still have struggles and insecurities but I would have learnt to deal with them better.

How do you picture your future?

Day 8: A Moment I Felt Most Satisfied With My life

I am not going to lie, I honestly cannot recall a moment when I felt most satisfied with my life. I guess it really goes to show that I should focus more on the positives than the negatives. Maybe at one point I was very content with everything in life but I certainly cannot recall it right now. I think there is always something that bugs me in the back of my mind. When I am doing well in school, something in my personal life is missing or I am not happy with my body image. When my social life is going well, then my grade must be in need of improvement... There is always something that keeps me from feeling truly content and happy.
I guess ideally, one should not need everything to be perfect to be satisfied, but for me, I cannot be truly satisfied unless everything is perfect. But that's impossible because everything can't be perfect, so I guess I won't be able to experience complete satisfaction when I truly accept that fact.

Day 7: Being A Sagittarius......

I think horoscopes are silly and unreliable as this video clearly demonstrates but I shall do today's post anyways just for fun!
I am a Sagittarius and these are the traits of a Sagittarius:

Positive Traits:
1. Optimistic:
I am more pessimistic than optimistic.
2. Straightforward:
That I am.
3. Intellectual:
Well, I like to think I am smart...
4. Philosophical:
I often think about deep topics, but I only rarely talk about very philosophical things with others.
5. Generous:
Yes, very.
6. Adventurous:
Hmm, this one is tough, I am adventurous with certain things, but with many social situations, I am not.

Negative Traits:
1. Careless
Yes at times, but overall, I would say I am a fairly meticulous person.
2. Tactless
No, I can be very tactful but when dealing with people I am close to, I like to be blunt and honest instead of resorting to tacts.
3. Restless:
A bit, I don't fidget too much but I don't have a very good attention span for things I find boring.
4. Superficial:
Looks are important, but I don't think that makes me superficial.
5. Inconsistent:
No, I am reliable.
6. Overconfident:
Definitely not!

Thanks for dropping by!

Day 6: Interesting Facts About Me!

Instead of 30, I am going to share just ten interesting facts about me, because one, I can't come up with 30 and two, you surely will get bored from reading that many!

1. I love doing the crosswords but hate sudoku!
2. I learnt how to make cotton candy when I volunteered at the Science Wold gift shop, it's actually pretty dangerous because you can get easily burnt if you don't pay attention!
3. I started playing the piano when I was five or six, I stopped a few years back after I finished the RCM level ten. I hated it, I continued on mostly because I already put so much work into it, might as well finish it.
4. I like eating fries with mayonnaise.
5. My favourite cake is a tie between carrot and red velvet.
6. I don't like light pink, purple, or dark colored (except red) nail polishes.

7. I have very elaborate conversations with myself when I am alone.
8. I hate it when people don't clean after themselves. i judge them severely!
9. I love biking. Also, male cyclists with nice calves are hot!
10. I have very very low tolerance for uncomfortable footwear, even flats are a no no for me.

So there you go, an assortment of ten random facts about me. Can you identify with any of them? Do share in the comments!

Day 5: Another Heavy Heavy Topic.....

I never really contemplated ending my own life. Sure I sometimes wonder, hmm, if I kill myself, how many people would go to my funeral? How many people other than my poor parents would be genuinely sad? But I think those kind of thoughts are pretty common because who isn't curious about their own demise?
However, I never considered suicide. Ironically, I am a fairly pessimistic person, I often feel lonely and depressed. Sometimes I sleep many hours a day because my dreams are a heck lot more interesting and stress-free than real life. I don't want to self-diagnose, but I meet a lot of the DSM criteria for dysthymia.
Anyhow, back to suicide. I have never seen it as a solution to anything. First of all, if I commit suicide, I might as well have murdered my parents because they (especially my mom) will be completely devastated. I could never do that to them. Secondly, I feel that even if my life gets so hopeless and sad, there is always a way out and killing myself certainly isn't it. I don't want to turn this into a anti-suicide PSA but I think killing oneself is a very selfish act and I know that no matter how bleak my life gets, I will not take that route.

Day 4: Religion, Religion, Religion...

I don't believe in god, or the existence of any divine power for that matter. I was raised an atheist; neither of my parents are religious and most of the people I knew didn't participate in any religious activities. So I guess I was sort of conditioned to be skeptical. It is very difficult for me to understand how people can put so much faith into something that cannot be backed up. How can someone so confidently and strongly believe the existence of something that's impossible to prove?
I think religions are a set of beliefs made up by people like you and me back in the days to explain things that cannot be explained. I think it's ironic how we call refer to stories of Roman god and goddesses as "mythology" today when at some point in the past, people truly believed in those things and that was their belief system. With that said, I don't think there is anything wrong with the concept of religion, for a lot of people, it provides a lot of guidance and assurance; it gives them some sort of explanation for the things that happen in their lives and in a way, it gives them a sense of control, that good things happen when you do good things and vice versa.
Anyways that's my view; I know a few of the other June challengers are very religious, so please don't take offence on what I just shared. Though I don't understand or agree with your beliefs, I still deeply respect you. :)

P.S. I have stopped replying to most of the comments because things are getting so hectic with school so I apologize for that. But I totally still look forward and read every single one of your feedbacks to my posts! Thanks for reading, cheers!

Day 3: Drugs n' Booze

Today's challenge implores us to share our views on drugs and alcohol. I've never done drugs and I very rarely drink. I think as long as it's done in moderation, it's not that big of a deal. But I guess the problem with alcohol and certain types of drugs is that they can become addictive so the moderation thing kind of goes out the window.
Also, a lot of people consume drugs and alcohol to lower their inhibition and really have a good time; it works but there are also plenty of enjoyable alternative "sober activities" that won't result in a total blackout and waking up in a strange place.
In addition, where we draw the line between what's legal and not is quite arbitrary in my opinion; the whole debate about legalizing stuff like marijuana gets quite ridiculous because if anything, alcohol does more damage to the body. So there you go, that's my two cents on drugs and booze.
